Video Demonstrating Most Common Habilitative Exercises

You may have additional exercises to complete with your child, and there may also be exercises in this video that we have not recommended for you to use with your baby. This video is intended to help demonstrate some of these exercises so that you can get some more instruction in how to complete them, but is not intended to show you exactly what to do with your baby. Please remember to follow your treatment plan to be sure that your baby gets the therapy they need to improve their orofacial function as efficiently as possible.

Our Favorite Swaddling Technique

Rhythmic Movements for Breastfeeding Difficulties

If rhythmic movement is needed for your child, you may perform these movements with your baby- however- please sloooooow down the rhythm much more slowly than is demonstrated in the video. Think more about the rhythm of a gentle heartbeat like you hear on the white noise machines, rather than the faster pace seen above.

Basic Latching Technique

Active Wound Management for post-frenectomy

Puppet Stretches from Bobby Ghaheri on Vimeo.

New Stretch Video from Bobby Ghaheri on Vimeo.

For at least the first week post-release, please only do step 1 with the gradually increasing frequency we discussed at your child's release (please refer to the email you received with the detailed instructions and wound care protocol). The video on the left contains excellent verbal instructions and walks you through the various steps of this active wound management process using a large mouth puppet- this is much easier to learn from. The video on the right will help give you a quicker refresher as you start practicing wound management on your own.
Important note:
When it is deemed necessary and appropriate, we will add step 2 into your routine after the first week post-op. This is because of the nature of the tissues in the mouth- if we mess with them too much during the first week after the procedure, they are more likely to develop restrictive scar tissue. We want this process to be gentle and effective- and we do not want to invite more restriction. If your child would benefit from step 3, we will discuss how and when to do this at your appointment- please do not push down hard on the floor of your child's mouth. That will hurt and will work against the gentle work we are doing to open up tense muscles here!
